Description
The idea to revive the Pirita Monastery appeared shortly after Estonia regained its independence, ending half a century of occupation. Representatives of the Brigittine Order visited Estonia even before this event. The abbess of the Brigittin Monastery in Turu, Finland, Mother Teresa Persiakkante, first came to Estonia in 1990 to take part in the memorial service in Tallinn in memory of Bishop Eduard. In 1991, which was a turning point for Estonia, Mother Teresa, along with six nuns from the Order of the Brigittines, visited Tallinn again. They took part in the celebration of the 550th anniversary of the Pirita Monastery on June 30. However, it took some time before the plan to restore the Brigittin Monastery in Tallinn began to come to life.
