Description
Tallinn Town Hall is a majestic building that is a symbol of medieval Revel and the pride of Northern Europe. Located in the center of the Old Town on the Town Hall Square, it is the best preserved medieval town hall building in the region and the only one in Northern Europe made in the Gothic style.
The history of this architectural masterpiece dates back to the XIV century, when the Town Hall was used as a consistory. Due to the increased commercial importance of the city, the town hall began to expand. As a result of the reconstruction in 1402-1404, the building received a beautiful arch, excellent ceremonial halls on the second floor and a representative tower decorating it. Thus, the town hall met the high requirements of a wealthy Hanseatic city.
Special attention should be paid to the tower of the Town Hall, where a weather vane was installed in 1530, which became known as Old Thomas. This symbol of the city has been serving as a city guardian for almost 500 years. It is also a good example of the highest craftsmanship of the Reval blacksmiths – dragon-head weirs, made in 1627 by local craftsman Daniel Peppel.
Today, Tallinn City Hall provides an opportunity for visitors to plunge into the atmosphere of history and culture, hold official meetings and enjoy concerts. The schedule of events and the poster can be found on our website, where you can also order and issue tickets quickly and easily. This unique place, combining historical value and the beauty of architecture, will not leave anyone indifferent who decides to visit this amazing place.
